Senecio are members of the Asteraceae family and are distributed worldwide, they are one of the largest known flowering genera of over 1250 known species. Senecios come in many shapes and forms, from the stunning blue fingered Senecio serpens to the wonderful trailing Senecio peregrines (string of dolphins). Many succulent varieties are commonly grown as houseplants as they cope well in slightly lower light, they also grow well in pots in the garden but require winter protection. Senecios form suckers and runners under the surface of the soil, these can be split from the parent plant to produce new plants.
They produce a daisy shaped flower that can be white or yellow depending on variety, flowering times vary but most varieties flower late spring.
