Delosperma lehmannii variegata quick care tips

Watering

Delosperma lehmannii variegata is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Delosperma lehmannii variegata likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September.

Ideal soil

Delosperma lehmannii variegata needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Delosperma lehmannii variegata

A sculptural spreading trailing succulent plant. Grows strongly but slowly. Can be pruned to your liking and the cuts will grow separately.

Delosperma lehmannii variegata is a rare and highly sought-after variegated form of the South African “Ice Plant.” Like the standard species, it forms compact clusters of upright stems with distinctive triangular, block-like leaves, but this cultivar displays striking variegation in shades of yellow and soft green. The contrast of the bold geometric foliage with its marbled colouring makes it a standout collector’s piece.
