In-Depth: Aeonium tabuliforme Care Guide

The Aeonium tabuliforme is one of the most stunning species of Aeonium, often stealing the show with its beautiful Fibonacci spiral and compact, nearly flat form. While this succulent thrives outdoors, it is sensitive to cold and needs protection from frost and temperatures below 4°C.

Planting

For best results, plant it at a slight angle to allow water to drain off from the crown (centre). It can even be planted vertically in walls or rockeries, mimicking its natural habitat where it grows on cliff faces. This makes it ideal for vertical gardens.

Soil mix and Watering

The Aeonium tabuliforme is an excellent feature plant. It tolerates some shade but can also thrive in full sun if planted at an angle. It’s equally suited to being an indoor houseplant. Use a well-draining soil mix, and feed it during spring to support growth before it slows down in winter. Reducing feeding in the lead-up to winter will help create a tougher plant, better equipped to handle cold spells.

Quick Care Tips

  • Use a free-draining soil mix.
  • Feed only in spring.
  • Plant at an angle for better water drainage.
  • Suitable as a houseplant, tolerating shade.
  • Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.
  • Does well in pots and can tolerate being pot-bound.
