Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata quick care tips

Watering

Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September.

Ideal soil

Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata

Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata is an interesting succulent that has amazingly beautiful little pink flowers in early summer which open on sunny days. The leaves are obovate in shape giving these plants a very distinct appearance.

As new growth appears, it tends to be yellowy green in colour turning to a pink blush as the light levels intensify. The flowers appear from the centre of each rosette enticing it to offset from the base, the stems on the plant have fine white hairs, as you can see in the pictures.

The species are native to South Africa and can be found growing in rock crevices. As they mature, they produce a caudex (a natural reservoir) to store water, which helps them survive extreme drought conditions.

They make stunning houseplants due to the array of chameleon-like colouring and unique form.
