Sedum spurium 'Dragon's Blood' (Stonecrop) quick care tips

Watering

Sedum spurium 'Dragon's Blood' (Stonecrop) is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Sedum spurium 'Dragon's Blood' (Stonecrop) likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September.

Ideal soil

Sedum spurium 'Dragon's Blood' (Stonecrop) needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

This sedum's new foliage begins as a fresh green in the spring, but as the strength of the sun intensifies so does the fiery red colouring in its leaves.

It makes the perfect ground cover in a dry hot area, ideal for tops or walls or large containers, can be pruned and tidied in early spring.

Like most sedums its incredibly hardy so can be left outdoors all year round, it produces purple-red flowers late summer, which are full of sweet delicious nectar that bees and butterflies adore.
