Cotyledon orbiculata 'Red Necklace' quick care tips

Watering

Cotyledon orbiculata 'Red Necklace' is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Cotyledon orbiculata 'Red Necklace' likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September. A feed we recommend is the one from our friends at LittleGreenSeaweed.

Ideal soil

Cotyledon orbiculata 'Red Necklace' needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Cotyledon orbiculata 'Red Necklace'

Cotyledon orbiculata ‘Red Necklace’ is a captivating cultivar, it has powdery white, wedge-shaped leaves set off by dazzling crimson-red coloured margins. As it grows, it will offset and form a very attractive cluster with each stem capable of producing a beautiful flowering display. During late summer, the plant produces a tall stem capable of holding up to 15 trumpet-shaped pink, orange and yellow flowers.

One of the most rewarding and easy to grow succulents as they thrive indoors or outside. Cotyledons as a genera tend to be able to survive temperatures below freezing.

They look great if potted up with other succulents and displayed on a patio or balcony, or even try them in a hanging basket, so that you and the moths can enjoy the flowers.
