Aeonium 'Deep Purple' quick care tips
Watering
Watering
The Aeonium 'Deep Purple' would like watering between once and twice per week in the peak growing season. It is advised to reduce watering when plants are dormant due to a heatwave and to significantly reduce/ stop watering when conditions are frosty.
Feeding
Feeding
Aeonium 'Deep Purple' likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September. A feed we recommend is the one from our friends at LittleGreenSeaweed.
Ideal soil
Ideal soil
Aeonium 'Deep Purple' needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.
Aeonium 'Deep Purple'
Aeonium 'Deep Purple' is one of few Aeoniums that resembles a purple-coloured rosette. The darker colours are brought out by the summer sun. It is a genuinely wonderful specimen. This fast-growing hybrid also features large curly leaves similar to Aeonium 'Pomegranate'. As shown in the final pictures, it can grow to astonishing heights. Our tallest specimen has reached a height of 185cm from the pot, with a rosette diameter of 40cm. It then flowered, which gave it an extra 40cm in height, finally towering to well above 2m! It tends to offset from the bare stem and keep the main rosette in perfect form, occasionally offsetting from the base.
Awarded Plant of the Month for September 2024.
