Sedum clavatum quick care tips

Watering

Sedum clavatum is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Sedum clavatum likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September. A feed we recommend is the one from our friends at LittleGreenSeaweed.

Ideal soil

Sedum clavatum needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Sedum clavatum

A species native to Mexico.

Sedum clavatum has attractive frosted green leaves which become pink/red at the margins in bright sunlight. It will grow to around 15cm tall with tightly spiralled rosettes at the stem tips. The old leaves go pale-pink and create a wonderful candy-contrast. It blooms in late spring/summer with white star-shaped flowers.

Works well in terrariums and other succulent gift planters.
