Echeveria 'Maruba Benitsukasa' quick care tips

Watering

Echeveria 'Maruba Benitsukasa' is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time.

Feeding

Echeveria 'Maruba Benitsukasa' likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September.

Ideal soil

Echeveria 'Maruba Benitsukasa' needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this. Adding extra grit may be useful to add even more drainage for these desert-dwellers.

Echeveria 'Maruba Benitsukasa'

Echeveria ‘Maruba Benitsukasa’ is an outstanding Japanese cultivar of Echeveria nodulosa (Painted Lady).

The maroon colouring gives this succulent a unique and surreal appearance. It has a very similar growth form to the Echeveria nodulosa but the leaves are slightly thicker .

Can grow nodules on the leaves, which is more commonly seen in the frilly varieties such as Echeveria ‘Etna’ and Echeveria ‘Raindrops’.

  • Choose a pot with a drainage hole if you can’t limit the watering (outdoors). A pot with no drainage hole can be used as long as you water moderately. A pot with a hole tends to be more forgiving. Also, as it is slightly breathable, a terracotta pot is usually preferred over a plastic pot, but the succulents dont seem to mind too much.
