Crassula x marchandii quick care tips

Watering

Crassula x marchandii is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Crassula x marchandii likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September. A feed we recommend is the one from our friends at LittleGreenSeaweed.

Ideal soil

Crassula x marchandii needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Crassula x marchandii

Crassula x marchandii was first found in South Africa by a German named Max Otzen but named after G. Marchand, it was collected in the 1880s and first distributed in California in 1970. It is a very poorly known species that represents a natural hybrid of Crassula grisea x Crassula plegmatoides due to it being found between the two.

This natural hybrid features a shiny exterior with shades of red, yellow and green. The leaf structure is small yet fleshy and exists upon a single stem that offsets readily. It blooms eventually with small greyish flowers.
