Agave lopantha ‘Quadricolor’ quick care tips

Watering

Agave lopantha ‘Quadricolor’ is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Agave lopantha ‘Quadricolor’ likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September. A feed we recommend is the one from our friends at LittleGreenSeaweed.

Ideal soil

Agave lopantha ‘Quadricolor’ needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Agave lopantha ‘Quadricolor’

This is the variegated form of Agave lopantha which is a very attractive, bright and ornamental plant.

Agave lopantha ‘Quadricolor’ has very thin, robust leaves compared to most other Agaves. Like a lot of Agaves, it can withstand cold temperatures to as -10*c, but this will require very good free draining soil. It is a compact growing Agave that can reach 50cm in height and spread when fully grown.

It's best grown in full strong sunlight, and with a regularly feeding during the growing season it will reach specimen size in good time. It can be grown in the garden or a pot and is best planted with a good layer of horticultural grit or gravel layer so water and rain can drain away freely, it is also advised to angle the Agave so that the crown doesn’t collect water. This is especially important in cold and frosty weather conditions.
