Jovibarba hirta quick care tips

Watering

Jovibarba hirta is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Jovibarba hirta likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September. A feed we recommend is the one from our friends at LittleGreenSeaweed.

Ideal soil

Jovibarba hirta needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Jovibarba hirta

A similar plant to Sempervivum but with smaller rosettes that spread rapidly.

Jovibarba are a close family member of Sempervivum, the differences are that they produce their pups from the stems or amongst the leaves and will a lot of the time, roll away from the mother. Whereas the Sempervivum will always offset using stolons. They also have bell-shaped flowers rather than the Sempervivum star-shaped flowers.
