Echeveria purpusorum quick care tips

Watering

Echeveria purpusorum is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time.

Feeding

Echeveria purpusorum likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September.

Ideal soil

Echeveria purpusorum needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this. Adding extra grit may be useful to add even more drainage for these desert-dwellers.

Echeveria purpusorum

The fabulous, slow-growing Echeveria purpusorum is a distinctive species from Mexico. It's attractive deep green leaves with flecks of red that resemble the skin of a little lizard, they can withstand high temperatures and look quite pointy and sharp to touch but are in fact quite delicate and kind.

In it's natural habitat, it grows on rocky outcrops which allow the water to pass through the root system very quickly.

They grow well on sunny windowsills. Use free-draining soil mix and water after soil drys.

During the growing season, it's always advised to feed Echeverias as this will encourage more flowers and a faster growth rate. Ensure as much sunlight gets to the plants as possible as this will encourage them to grow naturally without having to reach for the light.

  • Choose a pot with a drainage hole if you can’t limit the watering (outdoors). A pot with no drainage hole can be used as long as you water moderately. A pot with a hole tends to be more forgiving. Also, as it is slightly breathable, a terracotta pot is usually preferred over a plastic pot, but the succulents dont seem to mind too much.
