Surreal Succulents is the nursery at the heart of Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, ten minutes from Penzance in the far west of Cornwall. Sculpture-filled gardens, a gallery of Cornish makers, a shop full of curiosities, lunch over the bay and a nursery of rare succulents, all in one sheltered valley. Here's how to spend the day.
Stop one · The Sculpture Gardens
Start where the valley does. Wander a subtropical garden scattered with more than 30 works by artists including James Turrell, David Nash, Richard Long and Peter Randall-Page. Follow winding paths past woodland, pools and palm-shaded clearings to sweeping views over Mount's Bay to St Michael's Mount.

Stop two · Tremenheere Gallery
Step inside the light, oak-framed gallery for an ever-changing programme of painters, potters and printmakers from across Cornwall and the South West. Two floors of work to browse, and a window that frames the valley like a painting of its own.

Stop three · The Shop at Tremenheere
Step into the Shop at Tremenheere, a curated shop of the best contemporary makers from across Cornwall and the South West. You'll find work by selected artists, potters and printmakers: paintings, ceramics, prints, books, cards and small gifts, all chosen to take home for you or someone you love.

Stop four · Tremenheere Kitchen
Pause for lunch at the Tremenheere Kitchen, a bright restaurant serving seasonal Cornish breakfast and lunch, with a terrace looking out to St Michael's Mount. Booking is recommended, and dogs are welcome on the terrace.

Stop five · Surreal Succulents
Last but not least, finish at our own nursery, the home of Surreal Succulents. An award-winning grower since 2000, we raise everything on site, from hardy outdoor varieties to tender tropical specimens, many of them found nowhere else.
We let our plants mature outdoors all summer in the Cornish light, ripening them into some of the most vibrant colours you'll ever see in the succulent world. Take a little of Tremenheere home with you.
Our biggest and best are raised for the nursery. Many never reach the online shop.
