Crassula ovata | Jade Plant quick care tips

Watering

Crassula ovata | Jade Plant is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings following the 3 Ds: drench, drain and dry. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time over winter.

Feeding

Crassula ovata | Jade Plant likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September.

Ideal soil

Crassula ovata | Jade Plant needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Crassula ovata | Jade Plant

Crassula ovata, commonly known as the 'Jade Plant’ or ‘Money Tree’, is a popular succulent with a distinctive appearance. It features thick, fleshy, oval-shaped leaves that grow in opposite pairs along sturdy branches.

The leaves are a rich, glossy green colour, often tinged with red or bronze at the edges, and have a smooth, waxy texture. This succulent can reach a height of several feet, forming a tree-like structure with a thick trunk that becomes more pronounced with age. The Jade Plant produces small, star-shaped, white or pink flowers in clusters during the winter months once mature. It takes at least 5 years of growth to reach maturity.

It is a resilient and low-maintenance plant, known for its ability to tolerate drought and adapt to various light conditions. The Jade Plant is considered a symbol of good luck and prosperity, making it a popular choice for both indoor and outdoor gardens.
