A hybrid released to the public in 2017, Aeonium 'Cornish Rose' is a result of natural hybridisation from Aeonium thriving on a Cornish clifftop. This plant stood out for its luminescent colour and lovely rose-like rosette form. Taken as a cutting in 2015, we grew it on at the nursery. It is one of the best natural hybrids we have seen.
It develops multiple stages of long-reaching branches as it grows, creating an impressive display once it flowers. It may produce many babies from the bottom, which can be taken off and grown separately.
It will look best in its own pot as a standalone specimen but can be planted with other succulents in a rockery setting. Be mindful of its growth, as it can take over quite quickly.
The Aeonium 'Cornish Rose' would like to be soaked and left to partially dry, usually between once and twice per week in the peak growing season. It is advised to reduce watering when plants are dormant, usually during a heatwave, and to significantly reduce/ stop watering when conditions are frosty. If grown indoors over winter, water the plant lightly and directly to the roots when the plant is thirsty.
Aeonium 'Cornish Rose' needs free-draining soil to thrive. Use a specialist cactus and succulent mix, or blend compost with horticultural grit, sand, or perlite. This keeps the roots aerated and prevents excess moisture, which can cause root rot. Adding a gritty top-dressing not only looks attractive but also keeps foliage dry, reduces fungus gnats, and helps regulate moisture. Healthy soil is the foundation of successful succulent care.
Yes, but only in moderation. Feeding helps maintain healthy growth and strong colours. Use a diluted liquid fertiliser for succulents or a balanced cactus feed during the growing season (spring and summer). Apply every few weeks when watering. Avoid fertilising during dormancy in winter, as plants are resting and don’t need extra nutrients. Too much fertiliser can cause weak, leggy growth, so always err on the side of less.
