Introducing one of the most exciting collectable and incredibly rare Aeonium variegates around today. The incredible feature of this Aeonium is that it changes colour during the year. It’s almost like the chameleon of the plant world.
Aeonium ‘Superbang’ is just the most delightful and beautiful Aeonium; during the cooler months or when grown in lower light conditions, this Aeonium produces a creamy/yellow variegation running down the outside of the leaves, the centre of the leaf turns lime green in colour.
As the light levels intensify in the spring, the creamy/yellow outer variegation turns bright red, and the central lime green turns to a deep dark red, which can appear almost black.
This colour changing ability in its foliage gives this Aeonium its unique appearance and is something to look forward to no matter what time of the year. Aeonium ‘Superbang’ is like most variegated Aeoniums and tend to enjoy lower light level conditions, especially during the hot summer months, but try to give as much sun as possible over winter.
We have found the outer leaf variegation to be very stable and much more pronounced during the winter months. It can grow fast during the spring and autumn and can naturally offset as it grows. One single-headed plant can produce up to 5 offsets within a year. It can grow up to 40cm in height and spread with multiple offsets.
We are unsure of the parentage at this stage. Not to be confused with Aeonium ‘Big Bang’, which has an entirely different type of mutation in the leaves. Aeonium ‘Superbang’ is rumoured to be a sport from Aeonium ‘Mardi Gras’
