Aeonium 'Black Magic' quick care tips

Watering

The Aeonium 'Black Magic' would like watering between once and twice per week in the peak growing season. It is advised to reduce watering when plants are dormant due to a heatwave and to significantly reduce/ stop watering when conditions are frosty.

Feeding

Aeonium 'Black Magic' likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September. A feed we recommend is the one from our friends at LittleGreenSeaweed.

Ideal soil

Aeonium 'Black Magic' needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this.

Aeonium 'Black Magic'

Aeonium ‘Black Magic’ is a mesmerising succulent renowned for its dramatic beauty. This cultivar boasts rosettes of dark, almost black leaves that create a striking contrast against its surroundings. The foliage develops its deepest hue when exposed to sunlight, making it a standout feature in any garden or container. In addition to its captivating colouration, ‘Black Magic’ produces offsets early in its growth cycle, creating a crown of compact beauty. Unusual for Aeoniums, ‘Black Magic’ likes to flower from its offsets, so it will keep its original form for longer. We believe it to be a hybrid of Aeonium simsii x Aeonium ‘Schwarzkopf’ due to the hairy leaves and atypical flowering pattern.

With its unique combination of colour and form, Aeonium ‘Black Magic’ is sure to captivate and enchant succulent enthusiasts and gardeners alike.

This plant has a variegated version, Aeonium 'Peacock'.
