Echeveria 'Madiba' quick care tips

Watering

Echeveria 'Madiba' is a drought-tolerant succulent variety, so watering around once per week in the peak growing season is advised. Ensure the soil dries between waterings. It is also advised to completely stop watering when conditions are frosty, keeping the plant dry for several months at a time.

Feeding

Echeveria 'Madiba' likes to be fed to bring out its best forms and colours. We recommend feeding with a liquid seaweed feed every 2 weeks in the main growing season from April to September.

Ideal soil

Echeveria 'Madiba' needs free draining soil to thrive. We recommend a mixture of 1/3 John Innes no.2, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coconut coir. The soil mix we offer here is similar in composition to this. Adding extra grit may be useful to add even more drainage for these desert-dwellers.

Echeveria 'Madiba'

Echeveria 'Madiba' is a rare and highly distinctive variety known for its heavily frilled, undulating leaf edges.

The rosette forms broad, fleshy leaves in shades of dusty green to soft purple, often flushed with pink tones in bright light. Its ruffled margins and sculptural texture give it a dramatic, ornamental quality that sets it apart from typical Echeveria forms.

Best grown in a sunny spot with good airflow, 'Madiba' is a statement piece for pots or display arrangements, offering both colour and movement in a single plant.

  • Choose a pot with a drainage hole if you can’t limit the watering (outdoors). A pot with no drainage hole can be used as long as you water moderately. A pot with a hole tends to be more forgiving. Also, as it is slightly breathable, a terracotta pot is usually preferred over a plastic pot, but the succulents dont seem to mind too much.
