Some of the most colourful succulents are variegated. This is due to the variegation causing areas of foliage to lack chlorophyll, producing bright pink and yellow colours.

Due to the lack of chlorophyll, these plants are slightly slower growing than the non-variegated counterparts. They are also slightly less hardy so they need extra tentative care during the colder months. These traits explain why they are rarer than usual.
