Aeonium 'Limelight' is a remarkable new hybrid bred by Daniel Michael of Surreal Succulents, selected for its exceptional compact growth, vibrant year-round colour and impressive resilience. Bred from Aeonium aizoon and Aeonium 'Cornish Rose', this exciting cultivar showcases the very best qualities of both parents.
A sister seedling to the award-winning Aeonium 'Dynamite', 'Limelight' forms dense clusters of bright lime-green rosettes that naturally resemble giant Echeverias. Its neat, architectural habit and striking colour make it a standout feature in pots, containers and contemporary succulent displays. Reaching around 10-12cm tall, it combines beauty with toughness, having already survived one of Cornwall's most extreme winters completely unprotected.
'Limelight' received a very special launch at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026, where Surreal Succulents was awarded a prestigious Gold Medal. Visitors were invited to help name this exciting new introduction, with the winning submission choosing 'Limelight'. As part of the competition, the winner received the world's very first Aeonium 'Limelight' along with a £200 Surreal Succulents voucher, making this remarkable plant part of a unique Chelsea Flower Show story.

How often should I water Aeonium 'Limelight'? 💦 +
The Aeonium 'Limelight' would like to be soaked and left to partially dry, usually between once and twice per week in the peak growing season. It is advised to reduce watering when plants are dormant, usually during a heatwave, and to significantly reduce/ stop watering when conditions are frosty. If grown indoors over winter, water the plant lightly and directly to the roots when the plant is thirsty.
What soil is best for Aeonium 'Limelight'? 🪴 +
Aeonium 'Limelight' needs free-draining soil to thrive. Use a specialist cactus and succulent mix, or blend compost with horticultural grit, sand, or perlite. This keeps the roots aerated and prevents excess moisture, which can cause root rot. Adding a gritty top-dressing not only looks attractive but also keeps foliage dry, reduces fungus gnats, and helps regulate moisture. Healthy soil is the foundation of successful succulent care.
Does Aeonium 'Limelight' need fertiliser? 🌱 +
Yes, but only in moderation. Feeding helps maintain healthy growth and strong colours. Use a diluted liquid fertiliser for succulents or a balanced cactus feed during the growing season (spring and summer). Apply every few weeks when watering. Avoid fertilising during dormancy in winter, as plants are resting and don’t need extra nutrients. Too much fertiliser can cause weak, leggy growth, so always err on the side of less.
