Light and position

Feeding

Summer care

Repotting

Common problems

Loose, open rosettes and long, bare, leaning stems usually mean Echeveria harmsii | Plante peluche needs more light. Move it gradually into a brighter position and rotate the pot. Existing stretched growth will not tighten again, but a leggy branching plant is easily renewed by beheading and re-rooting the heads.

Soft translucent leaves, a loose crown, blackened tissue or a collapsing head are signs of excess moisture and rot. On a branching plant, check each crowded rosette individually, remove affected material, and allow healthy tissue to dry before repotting into fresh, dry compost. Keep water out of the centres and let pooled water drain from between the heads.

Dry brown patches can follow sudden sun exposure, especially where farina has been rubbed away or on inner heads previously shaded by outer rosettes. Introduce direct light gradually.
