Cotyledon’s are members of the Crassulaceae family and are native to South Africa, there are 150 known species that come in many shapes and forms, some species can survive temperatures as low as -7 if not colder. There commonly known as pigs’ ears or round-leafed navelwort, they flower mid to late summer and produce a tall flowering stem which supports a beautiful clustering display of large trumpet like flowers. Many varieties like Cotyleden orbiculata have an attractive silvery/white powder known as farina, this acts like a natural sunscreen and discourages pests.
