Jovibarba heuffelii ‘Mystique’

Jovibarba heuffelii ‘Mystique’ has impressive rich-red foliage edged with these fine white hairs along the leaf margins. The Jovibarba will grow into a tight, clustering form that would look great planted in a succulent bowl and placed as a centrepiece in an outside dining area.

The stemless alpine species of Jovibarba are closely related to Sempervivum requiring almost identical growing conditions, the leaves of the Jovibarba tend to be more rigid to touch making them tougher and less likely to break under force. Incredibly drought and frost resistant that requires little care but rewards you with absolute beauty.

Pot on in the spring and add slow-release feeding granules to the succulent mix to encourage good strong growth through the season.

Top dress with a thin layer of grit or gravel to mimic its natural Alpine environment.

Jovibarba are a close family member of Sempervivum, the differences are that they produce their pups from the stems or amongst the leaves and will a lot of the time, roll away from the mother. Whereas the Sempervivum will always offset using stolons. They also have bell-shaped flowers rather than the Sempervivum star-shaped flowers.
