Aeonium ‘Blood’ is our very own cultivar. Shown for the first time in our gold medal-winning exhibit at RHS Hampton Court in July 2019. This stunning quick-growing variety is a cross between Aeonium ‘Maximus’ and Aeonium ‘Voodoo’.
The early spring sunshine brings out this dazzling rich blood-like colouring in its rosettes which later darken in the summer, as the light levels intensify the leaves turn a deep dark red. We have found it to be an incredibly fast-growing Aeonium just like its parentage. It will produce layers of rosettes at intervals as it grows to create this tree-like form in as little as three years.
For best results when growing Aeoniums pot on or feed in early spring. If a plant is well-rooted and established in a pot feed with a 3 or 6-month slow-release fertiliser. It is important that Aeoniums have a good root system before adding any new fertiliser to the soil or compost. If the plants don’t anchor down in search for new nutrients then they can become top-heavy and become unstable in a pot or planter.
