Gasteria are members of the Asphodelaceae family which are native to South Africa, it’s not known how many species of Gasteria there are as they vary in appearance depending on location. They are an incredibly strong and robust species that can thrive in all types of conditions, from indoors to full sun outdoors. Gasterias are commonly known as ox-tongue or cow-tongue as they produce these tongue shaped leaves some of which have a rough texture to them. There are hundreds of cultivars that come in many different colours from silver to variegated. Gasterias tend to be slow growing which makes them very easy to look after as they will only need repotting every 3 to 5 years.

They produce a tall stem with bright pink/red and yellow flowers during the summer months.
